Dance Program

Arts ‘n Motion offers dance classes for toddlers to adults in the disciplines of ballet, tap, jazz, musical theater and hip hop. The goal of our dance program is to encourage individuality, creativity and a love of dance. Our program focuses on building strong technique as a foundation for becoming a well-rounded dancer proficient in various styles. Arts ‘n Motion’s Broadway Kids presents an end of the year recital as an opportunity for dancers to showcase what they have learned throughout the year. Arts ‘n Motion also has a performance company for the more serious dancer offering additional performance opportunities.

Broadway Babies (2-3 years)
A “mommy & me” class designed to introduce our tiniest dancers to the concepts of tap, ballet and song and dance. Basic pre-tap and pre-ballet skills and terminology will be introduced. A blend of creative movement and the use of props , stories and songs make this a fun and rewarding experience for child and caregiver.

Wee Rockettes I (3 years)
Wee Rockettes II (4 years)

A combination beginning tap and ballet class for dancers ready to move on their own. Beginning tap and ballet skills and terminology are taught with an emphasis on coordination and musicality. Props and dramatic play help to bring out a dancer’s creative expression.

Kinder Combo (5-6 years)
A combination tap, ballet and jazz class for dancers in kindergarten or first grade. Dancers will learn correct disciplines of the ballet barre, ballet positions, body alignment and center floor work, develop a sense of rhythm and musicality through the basics of tap dance and be introduced to the exciting world of Jazz Dance.

Boys Tap & Hip Hop (4.5- 8 years)
A class just for boys focusing on beginning tap and hip hop skills. This is a high-energyclass incorporating everything BOYS!

 

Ballet
Physical discipline, body awareness and postural control form the basis of our ballet program. Technique and terminology are stresses, with a focus on body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique.

Special Needs Ballet—Tiaras ‘n Tutus
A ballet class for children with special needs with the experience of dress up, music, movement, and the opportunity to perform on stage. Parent or authorized adult participation required.

Tap/Ballet/Jazz Combo I (6-8 years)
Tap/Ballet/Jazz Combo II (7-10 years)

Dancers will enjoy extending their knowledge of tap, ballet and jazz through this combination class. The length of class time increases as the dancer progresses in age, interest, vocabulary and ability.

Jazz
These classes feature a concentration in jazz technique.  Through proper warm up, effective stretching, body isolations and floor work incorporating center floor and across the floor combinations, each level builds on the previous one leading to greater understanding and proper execution of the styles of American jazz dance.  Popular music, including such styles as world music and Broadway show tunes, is used.

Tap
Students will explore the intricacies of rhythm and musicality using the feet as their musical instrument also developing  proper execution and production of sound clarity.

Hip Hop
A fusion of high-energy dance styles allowing dancers to groove to the beats of today’s popular (yet appropriate) music.

Lyrical
Combines jazz and ballet technique together to create expression of song lyrics and mood. Dancers express their individuality through unique and challenging dance combinations. Dancers must be experiences in ballet and/or currently taking a ballet class.

Contemporary
Elements of jazz and ballet technique are used in this popular dance form to strengthen the core and work on body alignment and flexibility. Incorporates improvisation and free expression to contemporary music. Ballet experience is recommended for this class.

Musical Theater Program

Sing ‘n Dance Kids
A pre-musical theater class for children focusing on singing, dancing and creative expression. Sing ‘n Dance Kids promotes confidence and self-esteem incorporating active listening, vocal development and dramatic play.

Musical Theater
This class introduces the fundamental skills used in musical theatre using a fun integrated approach to developing vocal technique, musicianship, acting and (movement) skills. It is a process and technique oriented class which emphasizes breathing, diction and projection, relaxation, ear training, melodic singing and dance musicality .In addition, the classes utilize drama games to spark the imagination, encourage self-confidence, encourage ensemble work and help students create believable stage characters.

Tots ‘n Motion
Kids ‘n Motion

A collaboration between music, movement and play. Children and caregivers explore spatial relationships, time (rhythm), weight, body orientation and creative thinking. Music and rhymes support movement with an emphasis on gross motor skills and body awareness. Soft play equipment is integrated at the end of class. Children will walk, run, wiggle, spin and shake, as well as sing, dance and use familiar rhymes to stretch, exercise and create. A perfect class for the child who loves to move around and explore their surroundings. Our music and movement classes are also a great introduction to dance as a prerequisite to our more structured dance technique classes.
